Our Mission      About Us
Celebrating over 25 years of service throughout the United States and Canada, Personal Ponies, Ltd. was founded by Marianne Alexander to exemplify empathy and compassion in the lives of those who we serve.   Marianne Alexander has more than three decades of equine experience as a horse breeder and has performed in front of the Queen of England, produced World Olympic champions and provided award winning equines to Delaware’s du Pont family.

PPL has grown into a well respected, international non-profit organization and at this time has over 1,300 United Kingdom Shetland ponies in service.  This unique program is supported 100% by volunteers and breeders all whom donate their talents, resources and time in supporting families and organizations within their local communities.  PPL provides a free life-long lease for each of their ponies placed in service with families and communities, as well as providing volunteer based education and life long support in managing aspects of PPL programming and ponies owned within the organization.

Personal Ponies came to Delaware in November 2005 and is currently hosted at New Castle County’s Carousel Equestrian Riding Center in Wilmington.  To date, the Delaware PPL program has five UK Shetland ponies serving the community and recently established the placement of two additional Shetlands at the Centreville School in Centreville, Delaware.  These placement ponies have been serving the children of the school and additional plans to share them within their local community are underway.

Personal Ponies has become a favorite educational and recreational program amongst individual families and community organizations within New Castle County.  We are into our third year supporting our own children’s literacy reading program entitled Pony Tales and continue to reach out to families and supporting organizations all throughout Delaware.  Here are just a few organizations our programming continues to support in the fields of recreation, therapy, education and awareness.
