Supporting our Veterans
Our ponies aren't just for kids!  Personal Ponies reaches out to the various armed services at the VA Medical Center in Elsmere. Maggie and Dandy enjoy a little R & R with the "boys" at the VA Welcome Home event.
You can read more about Maggie and Dandy's adventures as they visit inside of the VA Hospital and their Community Living area over here on the Veterans Affairs community page.
Maggie and Dandy were also recently featured in the Department of Veterans Affairs VAnguard national magazine for their uplifting visit with the veterans.  Check back soon for the link to this national publication due for publication by the end of October 2009.
+ 4-H Meetings and Activities
The Personal Ponies 4-H club is all about experiencing empathy and compassion within our community.  Members not only learn about the United Kingdom Shetland breed and the best practices in caring for these pint size ponies - but they also organize and share the ponies with schools, families and various organizations as members learn through real life experiences in sharing these unique connective tools with others that may come from different backgrounds and diversities. 4-H meetings are held once a month at Carousel Equestrian Center weather permitting.
+ Pony Tales Literacy Program
Children of all ages may enjoy this wonderful summertime reading program where kids bring their favorite story book and share some quality time as they read out loud to their favorite pony.  The kids also get an opportunity to groom and walk their pony once they've shared their story.  As a reward for their good behavior, children may bring an apple or carrot to place in the ponies' treat buckets at the end of their visit.
+ Awareness & Fundraising Events
Personal Ponies was incorporated over 25 years ago as a national non-profit organization - there are literally thousands of volunteers all over the United States and Canada spreading Magic!  Our organization currently has over 1,300 UK Shetland ponies in service - ranging from hospice care, individual family and school placements to community ponies and ponies supporting our breeding program.  Personal Ponies was established to serve our communities and there is NEVER a fee for our services and no one is paid a single cent for the work that we are committed to... but we do take pride in educating on the historical "pit" pony breed and rely on the generousity of our supporters to keep this magical program for all those whom we serve.  Please watch our calendar throughout the year for awareness and funding opportunities that you might be able to support.  We also hold a monthly OPEN HOUSE meeting where you can come and learn more about the breed and our program -- so be sure to check back often for calendar updates!
